Georgia Board Certified Percutaneous Discectomy Surgeons
The double board-certified spine surgeons from Envision Orthopaedics & Spine are Georgia’s trusted Percutaneous Discectomy experts. Percutaneous Discectomy is an outpatient surgical treatment that uses x-ray pictures and a video screen as a guide for a surgeon to remove damaged disc material. To reach the disc during Percutaneous Discectomy, your surgeon may use a suction probe, laser probe, or forceps.
Sometimes an endoscope (a tiny telescope-like instrument with a light) is inserted to view the disc area. The incision, made in the small of your back, is about the size of a puncture wound. Because your surgeon can see the damaged disc on a video screen, it’s not necessary to remove bone to view and reach the disc. After surgery, a small bandage is placed over the incision that is approximately ¼ inch in length.
Using this advanced, outpatient surgical procedure, Orthopaedic spine surgeon, Dr. James L. Chappuis, and his team have helped countless patients find relief from chronic lower back pain. If you have lower back pain that has not responded to non-surgical treatments, you may be a candidate for Percutaneous Discectomy. Call Envision Orthopaedics & Spine today to find out if this surgical procedure makes sense for you.
