Thoracics: Brachial Plexus Block – Spine Center Atlanta

Thoracics: Brachial Plexus Block

The brachial plexus is the network of nerves between the bottom four nerves in the neck or cervicals and the first nerve in the upper back or thoracics known as C5, C6, C7, C8 & T1. These nerves supply the neck, upper back, arms and hands. A brachial plexus injury is most often due to sports injuries and can cause pain, discomfort, numbness and tingling.

A Brachial Plexus Block is done by injecting medication into the brachial plexus. It is often used to assist in arm, shoulder, wrist and hand surgeries. It is also widely used for pain relief of those areas. The medication is guided in through x-ray via injection. Many patients feel relief right away. The effects may be permanent or may subside over time and repeat procedures may be performed.
