Board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon James Chappuis, MD, FACS, is also the founder and owner of Spine Center Atlanta, which serves patients at offices in Atlanta, Savannah, Conyers, Augusta, Macon, and Decatur, Georgia.

Dr. Chappuis, who is the practice’s senior orthopedic surgeon, graduated summa cum laude in earning his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He went on to earn his medical degree at the College of Medicine and Life Sciences (formerly the Medical College of Ohio) at the University of Toledo. After completing his internship at Mercy Hospital (now Mercy Health) in Toledo, Dr. Chappuis finished two residencies in Memphis, Tennessee: the first in general surgery at Methodist University Hospital, and the second in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic.

Dr. Chappuis also completed an AO spine fellowship at Klinikum Karlsbad-Langensteinbach in Karlsbad, Germany.

Dr. Chappuis is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and licensed in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.

He believes in merging traditional medicine with complementary and holistic approaches to care when doing so gives his patients their best chance at healing and a full recovery.

Dr. Chappuis has authored numerous publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and made many radio and television appearances, sharing his highly sought expertise. He also has fulfilled a host of academic and board appointments and aided in civic and community services.

When Dr. Chappuis steps away from the office, he enjoys watching college and professional athletics, horticulture, travel, and research and development, and art, including hosting events at the Westside Cultural Arts Center in West Midtown Atlanta.
